In a statement on Wednesday, the PPA said that 11 of the projects were completed in 2022, 6 were completed earlier this year, and 13 projects are ongoing.

“PPA was able to complete 30 seaport infrastructure projects encompassing the country’s three major islands wherein 17 projects were in Luzon, four projects in the Visayas, and 9 projects in Mindanao,” according to the announcement.

Some of these projects are the construction of a port operational area in the Port of Abra de Ilog in Mindoro, a new breakwater in the Port of Nasugbu in Batangas, the rehabilitation of the existing reinforced concrete wharf in the Port of Isabela, the rehabilitation and expansion of passenger terminals 1 and 2 in the Port of Calapan, and a new berthing facility in Ozamiz Port.

“Other projects in the top 10 include the extension of wharf and reclamation of the back-up area in Port of Iligan in Lanao del Norte, construction of back up area and Port of Coron in Palawan, expansion of back up area with roro ramp in the Port of Lipata in Surigao del Norte, and construction of Port Operational area in the Port of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro,” the PPA said.

These projects are part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s “Build, Better, More” program and are seen to help the country “get back on track” after the effects of the pandemic in the maritime industry and the rest of the country, said PPA.
