Mayor Fernandez: Continuous dredging to address perennial flooding in Dagupan

The City Government of Dagupan is looking into continuous dredging and investing in infrastructures to address perennial flooding in the city, the Philippine News Agency reports.

In a statement on her official social media account, Mayor Belen Fernandez said that these measures were brought up during a dialogue between officials from the city and national government and residents of the coastal villages involved in the implementation of the proposed River Restoration Project.

Fernandez said that experts recommended continuous dredging operations in the rivers with the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Ilocos Region.

Also, the official added that they have already coordinated with the barangay officials to determine the areas that will be subjected to dredging operations which will start from the portion of Pantal and Calmay River, Barangay Bonuan Gueset, to the mouth of the river in Barangay Pugaro.

The coastal villages of Dagupan City include Barangays Calmay, Lomboy, Pugaro Suit, Salapingao, Pantal, and Bonuan Gueset.
