Boskalis in Scotland: Accelerating port development operations

Boskalis’ dredging crew was very busy recently in the north-west of Scotland, helping the Port of Stornoway to accelerate its port development.

“An important aspect of almost all our dredging projects is that the region in which they take place seeks economic growth,” said Boskalis.

An example of this took place earlier this year at the Port of Stornoway in Scotland.

Opposite the existing terminal, Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Causeway created new land for the development of an additional terminal at the Port.

As newly created land needs time to settle in, which is why Boskalis’ subsidiary Cofra was also involved in the project.

Through dynamic compaction, the reclaimed land was compacted faster, said Boskalis.
