The work will entail dredging 558,000 cubic yards of material with placement at the Morehead City Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site (ODMDS).

The Port of Morehead City, a breakbulk and bulk facility, is one of the deepest on the United States East Coast, and it’s just four miles from the Atlantic Ocean.

Continued use of the federally maintained channel at Morehead City Harbor depends upon regular maintenance dredging. These works can be divided into dredging within inner harbor and Beaufort Inlet ocean bar channels.

Dredging works in the inner harbor areas are usually performed with a hydraulic cutterhead dredge, or with a bucket and barge. The ocean bar channel dredging is regularly accomplished using a hopper dredge.
