Sri Lanka: Major Layup Repairs on Dredger Darshani Prem Completed Sucessfully

 

Colombo has been attracting many dredgers for repairs over the past decade from all over the globe, on the good track record the owners automatic choice was Colombo Dockyard for their repairs.

The owners Mercator Lines Ltd., have been a regular callers patronising Colombo with their dredgers and tankers, yard has been servicing their fleet successfully.

The main repair scope consisted of routine drydocking related repairs, during this call the dredger had to be accommodated in drydock twice, initially for the drydocking repairs and subsequently to install the owner supply new propellers and for the fin modification job.

The work scope included installation of new Jet pump Engines (02), Dredging Engines (02) and related piping work, extensive cabling and new foundations, overhauling of both dredge alternators. During the second drydocking the new propellers and shafts were installed after required modifications.

Interesting modification was carried out to improve the speed / performance of the dredger with adaptive fins. 04 Nos. of fins were fabricated and installed successfully. The sea trials indicated increased speed and stable handling. The yards production teams worked tirelessly to meet the stringent deadlines and re-deliver the vessel on schedule to the owners.

During the drydocking call the owner’s interests were looked after by the attending superintendent Engineer Mr.Raj Gudela / Mr. Suresh Achary. The classification society Indian Register of Shipping represented in Sri Lanka requirements were also met by the yard during this call.

The vessel was accommodated at alongside repair berth on arrival and subsequently accommodated in drydock No. 1 and Dock No. 04. The Local Agents –GAC Shipping Ltd, provided the necessary husbanding services for the vessel during her stay in Colombo efficiently.
