USA: Lee County Plans Blind Pass Dredging

Lee County is planning to conduct dredging activities early next year in order to remove sand that has flowed into Blind Pass. Around 100,000 cubic yards of sand are planned to be dredged.

Several hundred thousand dollars will have to be invested in the dredging project.

Steve Boutelle, county marine operations manager, believes that the county would save several thousand dollars in mobilization costs by having Florida Dredge do the work.

Commissioner Ray Judah said it is necessary to clearly indicate who will benefit and who should share the cost of maintaining the pass.

Even if a prosperous plan was implemented in 2009, many have insisted during the past year that the pass has reached its limits.
