USA: Repair Work on Freeport Harbor Channel Jetties Starts January 3

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract to Conti Federal Services Inc., in March 2010, that included jetty repair work on the Freeport Harbor Channel jetties in Brazoria County, Texas.

A subcontractor, Luhr Brothers Inc., will begin work on the jetties around Jan. 3. The plan is to rebuild the seaward end of both jetties and reset the missing or misaligned cover stone in select areas of both jetties.

The contractor will barricade off only those areas where work is being conducted in order to keep pedestrian traffic out of the work zone for safety reasons.

This is a continuation of the Gulf Coast jetties hurricane repairs contract to restore the jetties to pre-Hurricane Ike conditions,” said Alicia Rea, project operations manager with USACE Galveston District.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and ask beachgoers and fishing enthusiasts to pay close attention to signage surrounding the project site in order to minimize safety risks along the beach.”

Work is scheduled to be completed by June 2012.
