USA: Rehoboth Beach Replenishment Completed

“363,000 cubic yards of sand were pumped onto the Rehoboth beach over the past three weeks,” said Maria Sadler, DNREC Spokeswoman.

All beach replenishment projects in Delaware have now been finished and all the beaches are in great shape for the 2012 summer season.

During a previous replenishment in Rehoboth, there was an issue with gravel being brought onto the beach. Sadler said that the problem is being addressed by using a different borrow area for the project.

Sadler said the sand being brought to Rehoboth is from the same borrow area — near Fenwick Island — that has been used for replenishment efforts in Fenwick Island, Bethany, South Bethany and Dewey.

Previous replenishment efforts in Rehoboth used sand from a location offshore in Rehoboth.
