USA: St. Augustine Beach Renourishment About to Begin

Renourishment activities in the St. Augustine Beach area will soon commence, most likely by next week.

A dredger is expected to arrive this week from South Carolina and some preliminary undertakings, including pipe staging and laying, will be needed before the renourishment project can begin.

Approximately 2.1 million cubic yards of sand will be pumped, over four to six months, on a stretch of coastline running from the southern tip of Anastasia State Park.

The project worth $16.2 million is the third cycle of adding sand to rebuild a shoreline and the beach is expected to be fully renourished by the end of the summer.
