USA: Virginia Beach Replenishment On Hold

A plan for the Oceanfront Beach sand replenishment project is officially put on hold.

The last sand replenishment project was more than ten years ago.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had planned to replenish sand eroded from the beach this year, but the only bid for the project exceeds the budget by $10 million.

Virginia Beach coastal engineer Phil Roehrs said: “The additional cost is due to companies having a backlog of sand replenishment projects.”

A new contract will be rebid in June and will be expanded to include replenishment for Sandbridge.
