India: CBI Takes Action Against Illegal Sand Dredging

The CBI has registered an FIR at the CBI Special Court in Kochi against a naval officer and the Managing Director of a private dredging company in connection with the sand mining scam at Ezhimala Naval Academy.

The case relates to the illegal selling of sand worth 1 .4 crore rupees dredged at the Naval Academy in 2010 in collusion with the naval officer.

We have conducted raids in the Naval Academy and the houses of the two suspects. A case has been registered but no arrests have been made yet. The arrest will be made only after going through the documents. We have to examine whether more people are involved in the case,” Krishna Kumar, CBI, SP said.
