UK: Council Presents Plan for South Shields Coastal Defence

The Council of the Borough of South Tyneside has announced plan for the coastal defence upgrade works at the South Shields area.

The Council now wishes to appoint a suitably qualified contractor for the scheme to upgrade the coastal defence which protects the frontage at Littlehaven Beach, South Shields and runs between the South Groyne and the South Pier of the river Tyne.

These construction works include the demolition of part of the existing sea wall, construction of a newly aligned concrete stepped wall (in situ), refurbishment of existing southern wall, associated promenade works, car park construction; all earthworks, hard and soft landscaping and drainage.

The deadline for expressions of interest is May 28, 2012.
