Bangladesh: Court Confiscates Three Dredgers from Meghna River

According to The Daily Star, a mobile court yesterday confiscated three illegal dredgers from the Meghna river bank at Sonargaon of Narayanganj.

Three workers of the illegal dredging projects were arrested. One of the arrestees, Montu Mia of Bhuiyan dredging project, was sentenced to three months of imprisonment and was fined Tk 1 lakh in default to which he had to serve another month of imprisonment. The other two arrestees were Kabir Hossain and Kamal Hossain.

“Following complaints from locals the Joint Commissioner(land) KM Al Amin of Sonargaon sub-division led the mobile court with coastguard and police personals, to investigate,” said the joint commissioner.
