USA: Beach Replenishment at Ventnor and Atlantic City Nears End

A beach replenishment project that added 300,000 cubic yards of sand to beaches in Ventnor and Atlantic City is nearly complete, according to pressofatlanticcity.com.

“I do like the larger beach, but I really hope that the dredging equipment will be removed soon,” said Annamarie Scarselletti, gesturing to a large, rust-colored dredging pipe that divides the beach near the Ventnor Fishing Pier. “It’s really unattractive.”

The $18 million replenishment project was financed with 65 percent of federal funding, 25 percent of funding from the state Department of Environmental Project and 10 percent of funding from municipalities.

Work was expected to be complete around June 5, but dredging equipment could remain on the beaches until the end of the month, the Army Corps of Engineers has said.
