USA: Dredging Closes Bay St. Louis Beach Area

A second section of beach at Bay St. Louis is closed, because of dredging for beach restoration.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality says dredging can release bacteria trapped in the floor of Mississippi Sound and cause dangerous physical conditions including terrain, surf, and quicksand. It also brings heavy equipment into the area.

The beaches will be reopened when The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory notifies that bacteria levels are safe.
