Last month, the Harbors Committee discussed maintenance plans for Old and New Harbors, on everything from dredging to beautifications, launch ramps and policy documents.

Committee member Bob Littlefield provided updates on Old Harbor dredging, saying that dredging of the harbor is almost complete, with the exception of dredging that can been done from land with an excavator.

According to the Block Island Times, Littlefield wants to talk with Harbormaster Steve Land and Town Manager Nancy Dodge about the additional dredging, which will help prevent sand from getting back into the harbor dock.

There are also plans by the Old Harbor Task force for a possible “beautification” project of Old Harbor, with hopes to put in more picnic tables, umbrellas, and plants, reported committee member Arlene Tunney.
