Indonesia: Sunter Lake Dredging Project to Develop Water Sports

The dredging of 13 rivers in Jakarta is not just for minimizing flood, but also to develop water sports.

According to Berita Jakarta, the Sunter Lake in North Jakarta, one of the 13 rivers that will be dredged, is going to be used for rowing and water skiing venue which will be built in 2013.

Sunter Lake will be equipped with several facilities for it to become internationally standardized rowing and water skiing venue. Do not throw wastes into the lake so it could be conveniently utilized as training area for rowing and water skiing. We are planning to start the construction process in 2013, so the next National Sports Week (PON) XIX in 2016 in Jakarta could be better thatn before,Sisca Hermawati, Head of North Jakarta Mater Management Public Works Sub-Department, explained.

He also said that the dredging of Sunter Lake is due to the help of World Bank.
