Plan for Boat Harbor in Plett Includes Dredging (South Africa)

Ten-year-old plans to build a small boat harbor in Plett appear to finally be coming to fruition.

According to CXPress, Western Cape Marina Investments has eventually made good on an undertaking to take the project forward with the release of an information document describing plans to build the harbor in the Piesang River mouth, next to the iconic Beacon Isle Hotel.

The project includes the construction of residential blocks on both sides of the river and a commercial node which will replace the ramshackle wooden structure that houses Moby Dick’s restaurant and adjoining buildings, so transforming the Central Beach area into a modern waterfront.

CXPress reports that the shallow Piesang River estuary will require considerable dredging to make it deep enough to accommodate boats and moorings, and the harbor will be surrounded by three to seven storey residential buildings planned for the northern and southern banks of the river where it flows into the sea.
