Plan for River Benue Dredging Moves Ahead (Nigeria)

The Federal Government would embark on the construction of a river port in Benue this year and that the dredging of the River Benue would commence before the last quarter of 2012,” said Sen. Idris Umar, the Minister of Transport.

He dropped the hint when the members of the Makurdi River Port Implementation Committee visited him in his office in Abuja, worldstagegroup.com reports.

Umar added that the construction of Makurdi River Port would also start within the same time frame.

According to worldstagegroup.com, the procurement process and the award of contract for the dredging had reached an advanced stage.

A dredged River Benue and a functional Makurdi River Port would transform the economy of the state with massive employment and wealth creation,” concluded Umar.
