Thailand: Agriculture Minister Supports Flood Prevention Project

The Agriculture Minister has inspected parts of the state-initiated flood prevention projects, which are said to be progressing as planned.

Agriculture Minister Theera Wongsamut joined Chainat Governor Chamlong Phosuk and officials from related offices as well as the Office of Royal Irrigation 10, on Wednesday, in the inspection of the levee improvement projects in Chainat Province.

Mr. Theera said that the Royal Irrigation Department has reported 5 damages of the levee along the northern part of the Chao Phraya River and, so far, the repair works have progressed well towards their expected finishes in July and mid-August.

The Agriculture Minister said that the levee improvement project also involved the widening and the elevation of the embankment along the Chao Phraya River.

During the inspection, Mr. Theera urged all related agencies to make sure the structures involved in the water management program and the water pumps are ready to deal with any flood, and to rid all canals and rivers of water weeds to compliment the dredging work, which has been completed.
