Philippines: Chico River Dredging Plan Moves Ahead

Chico River Dredging Plan Moves Ahead

The city government has earmarked a P13.5-million fund to start the dredging of the silted Chico River within this year, after the dredging task force comes out with the guidelines, according to the Philippine Information Agency.

Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban said that the city government has already organized the Chico River Dredging Task Force, a composite body from the city government, Provincial Engineering Office, Department of Public Works and Highways, National Irrigation Administration, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and Office of the Congressman.

The project is set for implementation immediately after the group has threshed out the guidelines on the project,” Tubban said.

Explaining that dredging of the Chico is not just a one-time activity, Tubban said the city government has prepared a continuing program of work starting 2012.
