City OKs Completion of Ashmun Bay Dredging (USA)

The Sault Ste. Marie City Commission approved a bid from Gro America, LLC of Grand Rapids, to complete the Ashmun Bay dredging project.

According to the City Manager Spencer Nebel , this dredging project includes digging of the channel to a uniform depth of 6.5 feet connecting the Ashmun Bay Boat Ramp with the shipping channel providing access to the Upper St. Marys River.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Grant, the Sault Area Sportsman’s Club, the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Cloverland Electric are financially contributing to this project.

Sooeveningnews.com reports that dredging will begin later this month and the channel should be completed well before the winter ice forms on the bay.
