Singapore: PSA Launches Pasir Panjang Development Plan

PSA Singapore Terminals (PSA) is investing S$3.5 billion in class-leading infrastructure and the latest port technology to develop Phases 3 and 4 of its Pasir Panjang Terminal (PPT).

PPT Phases 3 and 4 will feature an automated container yard equipped with proprietary intelligent planning and operation systems, as well as unmanned, rail mounted gantry cranes. These cranes, along with those installed at the berths, will run on electricity and be more environmentally sustainable.

Greater implementation of automation and intelligent technologies will also spur port productivity and enhance employee skill sets to manage these advanced systems. PPT Phases 3 and 4 will have a total of 15 new berths. With nearly 6,000 metres of quay length and up to 18 metres draft, the new terminals will be able to serve the next generation of containerships, while maintaining high service standards. The launch ceremony at PSA Building was officiated by Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport.

When fully developed over the course of this decade, the new terminals will boost Singapore’s total container handling capacity to 50 million TEUs per year, and meet future growth of global trade and long-term needs of PSA’s customers.
