Ireland: Grand Canal Dredging Resumes

A further dredging of the Dublin inner city section of the Grand Canal will start in October 2012.

The news was confirmed today by the Waterways Ireland, one of the six North/South Implementation Bodies established under the British Irish Agreement in 1999.

Waterways Ireland has responsibility for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of inland navigable waterways.

According to afloat.ie, this work will involve the removal of sediment deposits from the central navigation channel.

The work is funded by the Government under the National Development Plan 2007 – 2013.
