Belgium: Dredging Work for Deurganck Lock Approved

Dredging Work for Deurganck Lock Approved

At the proposal of Public Works minister Hilde Crevits, the Flemish government has approved a partial contract for dredging work in the Deurganck dock.

The expenditure of nearly 34 million euros will be charged to the Flemish Infrastructure Fund.

The new lock is currently under construction at the end of the Deurganck dock, forming a connection between the Scheldt and the Waasland canal. The new lock is scheduled to enter operation in the spring of 2016.

Due to the growth of the Waasland port area this new facility is absolutely essential for further development of the port. The Kallo lock – currently the only maritime access to the Waasland port area – has now reached full capacity.
