PNA Plans Cherbourg Port Expansion (France)

PNA Plans Cherbourg Port Expansion..

France’s Ports of Normandy Authority (PNA) is planning to harness the power of the sea, reports NewNet.

Since the port of Cherbourg is located close to the Raz Blanchard, which is known for strong currents, this makes it ideal for tidal energy development.

To be able to install tidal generators, the port needs to be extended by 35 hectares. PNA estimates that this extension will cost EUR 60 million.

The PNA will schedule public consultations in the spring 2013, and they expect the work to commence in 2014 or by 2016.
