Waveland Beach Renourishment About to Begin

Beginning April 1, Waveland Beach will be temporarily closed while construction crews set up for the beach renourishment project slated to begin along South Hutchinson Island.

St. Lucie County lifeguards will be relocated to South Beach Park, 801 South Ocean Drive, until the project is completed and the access structures at Waveland Beach are rebuilt. Lifeguards will be on duty 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Waveland reopens.

Also, these county Mosquito Impoundment Areas will reopen April 1 for drive-in dike access for those with keys:

Impoundment 1 (Bear Point Sanctuary);

Impoundment 2 (John Brooks Park Riverside);

Impoundment 3 (Vitolo Family Park);

Impoundment 4 (Vitolo Family Park);

Impoundment 5 (Blind Creek Park Riverside/North);

Impoundment 6 (Blind Creek Park Riverside/South); and

Impoundment 9 (Ocean Bay Park Riverside).

The impoundments have been closed to vehicular traffic while crews completed repairs to the dikes damaged by Sandy last fall.
