Nigeria: Governor Amosun Stops Ogun River Dredging

Governor Amosun Stops Ogun River Dredging

The state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has ordered the immediate stoppage of further dredging of the Ogun River at Isheri because of its possible effect on the environment.

Amosun, who gave the directive during an on-the-spot assessment of the river, affirmed that government would not fold its arms and watch some selfish individuals continue milking the State dry of the revenue needed to embark on developmental projects for the benefit of the general masses.

They just come here to commit illegality and siphon the much needed revenue we need to develop our State, We will not allow this to continue” Amosun stated.

The Governor explained that government would take necessary steps immediately to regulate operations at the river in conformity with modern ways of doing dredging business.

We are going to be technically involved as a government. All professionals in the area of dredging will be engaged to advise government and put this place in order. If flooding occurs here, it is going to affect many communities simply because of the selfish interest of some people” the Governor said.
