Corps Announces Captiva Island Coastal Development Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a plan for the Captiva Island flood control and coastal emergency program.

Project work will provide berm renourishment for approximately 4.6 miles of critically eroded shoreline on Captiva Island, Lee County Florida.

A permitted offshore borrow area for the project is located approximately 9 miles west-southwest of the beach placement area. Work also includes, but is not limited to, repairing dunes, scarp repair, beach tilling, construction/vibration controls and monitoring, turbidity monitoring, sea turtle trawl sweeping and relocation, endangered species observers, and beach fill remediation.

Magnitude of this development program is between $10 mln and $25 mln.

The request for proposal has been issued on 24 May 2013 and proposals are due on 14 June 2013.
