Thimble Shoal and Cape Henry Dredging Plans Announced

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District, has announced a plan for the two federal navigation channels dredging program.

The project consists of dredging portions of the Thimble Shoal Federal Navigation Channel and the Cape Henry Federal Navigation Channel.

The work in Thimble Shoal consists of maintenance dredging to a required depth of 51 feet MLLW with one foot of allowable overdepth. The dredging involves approximately 1,233,000 cubic yards of material, including allowable overdepth dredging and estimated accretion to December 2013.

The work in Cape Henry Channel consists of maintenance dredging to required depths of 51 and 52 feet MLLW each with one foot of allowable overdepth. The dredging involves approximately 1,640,000 cubic yards of material, including allowable overdepth dredging and estimated accretion to February 2014.
