USA: Report Backs Up Full Utilization of Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund

Report Backs Up Full Utilization of Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund

Congresswoman Janice Hahn joined her colleagues on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Special Panel on 21st Century Freight Transportation, to unveil the final report of recommendations on the current state of freight transportation in the United Sates and ways to improve and strengthen the U.S. economy through an efficient freight network.

“It has been an honor working with my esteemed colleagues on a critical issue that impacts the growth and sustainability of our local communities and the health of our nation’s economy,“said Congresswoman Hahn. “I applaud the bipartisan committed efforts of the panel in working together to put forth a comprehensive report that will help create good paying jobs, boost American competiveness and build a world-class transportation freight network.”

In an effort to get a first-hand view of the everyday freight issues the port communities are facing, the panel attended a series of briefings, hearings, roundtable discussions and toured various freight facilities in the Southern California, New York City, Memphis, New Jersey and Virginia.

“As a representative of a port community and co-founder of the Congressional PORTS Caucus, I am pleased that the final report includes recommendations that encourage ports and intermodal facilities to maximize efficiency through off-peak cargo movement, supports full-utilization of the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund, and urges Congress to require critical freight infrastructure operators to develop cyber vulnerability assessments and incident response plans,” added Hahn.
