India: Officials Push for Haldia Port Dredging

Officials Push for Haldia Port Dredging

Trinamool MPs Aparupa Poddar and Tamluk MP Suvendu Adhikari today raised several issues facing Bengal during the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha.

On a discussion of matters of urgent public importance, Adhikari raised the issue of crisis in Haldia Port.

He said that more than Rs 50000 crore has been invested by private investors in Haldia. But the port was facing problems due to the Hooghly and Haldi Rivers silting.

He demanded that Haldia Port Trust Authority be set up as soon as possible.

Capital dredging must be undertaken at Haldia Port as early as possible by a private company through e-tender, and not by Dredging Corporation of India, Adhikari said.
