The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, has awarded a contract in the amount of $3.2 million to Southern Contracting LLC for bank stabilization in Jefferson County, Texas.

Work will include installation of a new sheet pile retaining wall with anchor sheet pile wall, tie-rods, and walls at the Corps’ Port Arthur Resident Office.

This erosion protection structure will better protect the shoreline and reduce erosion of shoreline and reduce shoaling and future dredging of the channel,” said Paula Wise, an operations manager with the USACE Galveston District’s Navigation Branch.

The contractor will also remove all existing stone erosion protection from along the shoreline and adjacent channel.”

According to Wise, work is scheduled to begin October 2015 and will last approximately 210 days.
