Picture of the Day: Dredging in Panama
The Panama Canal Expansion Program continues to rapidly progress and at the moment, this capital development scheme is about 93% completed.
The massive expansion program will create a new lane of traffic along the canal through the construction of a new set of locks, increasing the waterway’s capacity.
The filling of the fourth phase of the Pacific Access Channel (PAC-4) began last month, bringing Culebra Cut one step closer to connecting with the new Pacific-facing locks.
Canal de Panamá – La Ruta, a government organization, has just released on its facebook page this beautiful photo from the expansion project, with a large dredging vessel in the background.
