Boskalis Completes Hayling Island Beach Renourishment

Havant Borough Council recently completed the beach management operations along the Hayling Island seafront in accordance with the Beach Management Plan for the area.

The contractor, Boskalis Westminster Limited, used dredger – the Sospan Dau – to carry out the works.

Around 25,000 cubic meters of shingle material was dredged from Chichester Harbor, transported a short distance and pumped onto Eastoke beach on Hayling Island.

The shingle beach along Eastoke is the primary line of defense against erosion and flooding, however coastal processes are constantly eroding it.

Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) will continue to monitor the condition of the beach over the winter period to help inform future beach management decisions.

The project, which took 4 weeks to complete, was fully funded by the Environment Agency through a Flood Defense Grant in Aid.
