Duck Beach Nourishment Project Complete

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company has completed the Town of Duck Beach Nourishment project.

The town reported yesterday that the hopper dredgers Dodge and Padre Islands wrapped up the project two nights ago and have demobilized to Kill Devil Hills. GLDD plans to have all equipment demobilized and off the beach in the next couple of days.

The town also added that the fencing and planting contractors have started work along the nourished beach area. Sand fence installation began on June 12th at the northern end of the project area and will continue working south.

The final public update meeting on the works was held yesterday, June 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Paul F. Keller Meeting Hall. Julien Devisse, engineer with Coastal Planning and Engineering of North Carolina, presented final update on the nourishment project.

The Town of Duck Beach Nourishment project included restoration of 1.7 miles of shoreline, from Oyster Catcher Lane to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Field Research Facility at a cost of 14.1 million dollars.

Now, GLDD will be solely focused on the Kill Devil Hills beach nourishment which includes 2.6 miles of shoreline, from the Kitty Hawk town line to Prospect Avenue at a cost of 8.9 million dollars.
