South Hayling Island Beach Renourishment Scheme

As a part of the ongoing beach management plan for South Hayling Island, Havant Borough Council will be undertaking beach renourishment works during January and February 2018 to rebuild the beach after the recent stormy weather.

The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) anticipates that these works will begin during the week commencing the 8th January, and will last for a period of 4-6 weeks.

ESCP also added that during the works approximately 8,000m³ of shingle will be placed onto the beach to help reduce the risk of the coastal flooding to properties and residents of Eastoke.

The works are to be carried out by J.T Mackley & Co. Ltd.

The South Hayling BMP has identified a strategy for delivering the beach management approach along the open coast over the next five years (2017 – 2022).

The BMP sets out the requirements for maintenance, monitoring and intervention in order to maintain the beach and structures to ensure they continue to provide an adequate standard of protection along the Eastoke southern frontage.

This strategy is based on the methods and techniques developed and employed by Havant Borough Council since the initial 1985 beach replenishment operation, including beach recycling using land-based plant and beach recharge using dredgers.
