South Hayling Island Beach Renourishment in Full Swing

As part of the Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership (ESCP) ongoing Beach Management Plan for South Hayling Island, Havant Borough Council is undertaking beach renourishment works during March 2018 to return the beach at Eastoke to full design profile.

These works started on 12th March, and will last for a period of 2-3 weeks, reports ESCP.

The works will be carried out by Les Searle, and will involve recycling shingle already on the beaches of South Hayling,” the partnership said. “The beach material will be extracted from the open beaches on the South Hayling frontage, and transported back to Eastoke.”

During the works, you are likely to see 4 dumper trucks, 2 bulldozers and an excavator working along the beach. Extracted beach material will be transported to fill any depleted groyne bays along the Eastoke frontage,” added ESCP.

As with previous beach maintenance operations, the haul route will be clearly marked on the landward side with a line of traffic cones. Works will be taking place Monday-Friday, between 7am and 7pm daily.
