Member for Coffs Harbor Andrew Fraser said that under the ‘Rescuing our Waterways‘ program, Coffs Harbor City Council would oversee the dredging and match the funding dollar-for-dollar.

The boat ramp would normally provide safe ocean access for commercial and recreational vessels, but sand has been slowly building up forming a shallow bar,” Mr Fraser said. “This funding will allow the council to relocate 10,000 cubic meters of sand so the boat ramp can be used safely.”

Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole added that dredging projects allow for the best use of waterways. “It is important we keep these waterways open for local communities and boat users.”

These grants help with the delivery and better coordination of important projects which help to ensure our beautiful waterways can continue to be used by water users across the state,” Paul Toole said.

The program forms part of the NSW Coastal Dredging Strategy with the next round of funding to open early 2019. A further $1.5 million will be made available to councils on a matching dollar-for-dollar basis.
