According to the Army Corps’ Alaska District, the three projects will ensure the local communities have safer passages for vessels and provide vital services to the communities where they are located.

They will support fishing, commercial traffic and better enable the communities to receive fuel and commercial goods.

These construction project will require massive dredging of the harbor basins and associated navigation channels in order to provide larger vessels access to these facilities.

Congressional authorization was the next step in bringing these projects to the communities they benefit, reported the Corps.

The next step for each project, contingent upon Federal and Non Federal funding, is to proceed into the design phase.
