Dredging has officially started in the South Channel of the Broadwater – part of Gold Coast Waterways Authority’s (GCWA) wider Seaway dredging project.

“We’re improving navigational access to Gold Coast waterways by dredging the Gold Coast Seaway entrance and the adjacent North and South Channels,” said GCWA.

The dredged material will be beneficially reused to nourish Gold Coast beaches.

Removal of shoaling in the North and South Channels is set to improve access for larger vessels to the local marine industry hubs at Coomera and in the southern Broadwater.

This $6.3 million project will be completed in January 2022.
