MTCC celebrates major milestone with the completion of Centara 3 Islands project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Plc (MTCC) yesterday marked a major milestone with the completion of land reclamation and shore protection works for the Centara 3 Islands Project.

The celebration ceremony of the “Centara New Resorts Maldives: Reclamation of 3 Different Islands” project was held in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Aslam, Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure; Mr. Akram Kamaludheen, Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure; Mr. Shifaz Ali, Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure; Ms. Prapaijit Thongma, Area General Manager of Centara Grand Island and Centara Ras Fushi; and MTCC CEO Adam Azim.

“Despite the challenges we faced in our supply chain during the past 2 years due to the Covid Pandemic, our team worked tirelessly with perseverance to deliver all our projects on time,” MTCC officials said at the ceremony. “We are proud to officially handover the Centara 3 Islands Project to our client, Lagoon Assets Private Limited.”

Scope of the works for this $26.3 million project included reclamation of three artificial islands at Vattafaru. Each of these islands has an area of 7 hectares.

According to MTCC, the completion of this project is a major milestone in the 40 year long history of the company as it is the most extensive international project in value.

Work on the Centara land reclamation project started in late 2019 and was completed on 24th November 2021.
