Moving forward with the Resilient Norfolk project

Earlier this month, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District and the City of Norfolk signed a Project Partnership Agreement to move the Resilient Norfolk Coastal Storm Risk Management project forward.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides this $399 million in funding for the project to increase coastal resilience and reduce the flood risk.

For the fifth straight year, Norfolk ranked number one for sea level rise on the East Coast, increasing the risk for flooding and damage due to hurricanes, nor’easters and other significant storms.

This project includes storm-surge barriers, floodwalls, levees, tide gates, pump stations and nonstructural features including home elevations, basement fills and commercial floodproofing.
