The Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration initiated the Ihavandhoo land reclamation project in 2021.

After dredging approximately eight hectares of land, the project was halted due to the relocation of the machines used for the project being temporarily relocated to another island.

The dredging work resumed on the 12th of this month using Jan De Nul’s trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Filippo Brunelleschi.

With the capacity to dredge an area equivalent to four days of work by MTCC’s own dredger Maha Jarraf in just one day, the new dredger highly expedited land reclamation operations.

Making remarkable progress in a short time, the 25-hectare land reclamation project in Ihavandhoo, which has a population of about 4,000, has now reached its completion.

MTCC will now build a boatyard and a turf football ground on the newly dredged land. Portions of the land will also be allocated to Ihavandhoo residents.
