Big Suamico River dredging project on display

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District is about to prepare a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document on the effects associated with a proposed dredging project for the authorized federal navigation channel on the Big Suamico River.

The proposed project would dredge the approximately 3,700-foot federal channel up to the 8-foot authorized depth, removing approximately 20,000 cubic yards of material from the navigation channel.

The disposal location will be either in-water placement or upland placement along Longtail Point, located approximately one mile south of the mouth of the river.

As part of the NEPA scoping process, USACE is seeking comments regarding potential impacts from the proposed action. The deadline for sending comments is January 22, 2024.
