The dredging, which started January 1 and is scheduled to take five months, is set to ensure that the channels remain safe and navigable for boaters.

“The harbor needs to be dredged due to a severe build-up of sediment in the entrance channel, which has reduced navigation for boaters and first responders,” said the County of Los Angeles.

The dredging will remove the sediment at the harbor entrance, as well as the shoaling along the north jetty.

Sediment removed from Marina del Rey will be placed offshore at Dockweiler State Beach.
