Following on from a recent project to upgrade jetties at the Griffiths Street boat ramp, work is underway to create deeper water near the river mouth.

The project’s thanks to $190,000 through the Better Boating Fund and local ports program, funded by the Department of Transport and Planning,” said BBV.

A cutter suction dredge will remove sediment from the river mouth and further up the river, creating 2-4 meters of depth throughout the river.

The extra depth will enable more boats to be moored nearby and make it easier to get out onto the river or head offshore for rec boaters, charter operators and commercial fishers alike, said BBV.

Work is expected to take a couple of months.
