This project is set to repair and strengthen the sections of the moat wall and will restore water flow.

The dredging of the moat is necessary to remove extra sand that piled up inside the moat from previous hurricanes, the statement reads.

After removing debris, including bricks and other hazards, the sand will be redistributed in the parade ground, and along the shoreline and beaches of Garden Key.

After the dredging project, we’ll be able to repair the damaged moat wall, which protects Fort Jefferson itself from storm-surges,” said Dry Tortugas.
