Grand Isle dune restoration moves ahead

In Grand Isle, dune restoration is progressing with clay core sections being installed along a 4-mile stretch along the western half of the gulf coastline, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, said.

This area experienced significant damage as a result of Hurricane Ida.

When the clay cores are complete the dune elevation will be 13.5 feet after dredging sand from an offshore borrow pit and using it to cover the newly completed Clay Core sections.

The restored dune and beach will provide risk reduction for the Town of Grand Isle against future storms events, said USACE.
