Port of Los Angeles to Get New Container Terminal

The Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. Ltd will help the California United Terminals in their plans to build a new container terminal facility at the Port of Los Angeles.

Japan’s Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. Ltd inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on the Pier 500 project details.

The new terminal will be created on the southeastern edge of the existing Pier 400, helping to boost the transport of goods to and from South Korea.

But, before construction can begin on the new terminal it would have to undergo a rigorous environmental review” said Phillip Sanfield, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Port.

The completion of the Pier 500 project is not expected to be for at least a ten years.
